A New Perspective

The “Tagus – Portugal’s Artery” project sets out to document, in a new way, the full journey of the Tagus River across Portuguese territory — from its entry at Vila Velha de Ródão to its mouth in Lisbon.

 What moves this project?

The aerial journey by paramotor along the Tagus will generate exclusive photos and videos — but more than that, it seeks to awaken a deeper gaze among the locals, especially the youth, toward the natural and cultural treasures around them.

The aerial journey by paramotor along the Tagus will generate exclusive photos and videos — but more than that, it seeks to awaken a deeper gaze among the locals, especially the youth, toward the natural and cultural treasures around them.

Through unique aerial images, sincere interviews with residents, and videos captured from a powered paratrike, we aim to reveal the true soul of this river — a symbol of Portuguese identity, culture, and unity. Two Portuguese outsiders — one a pilot, the other a communicator — will cross the country at low altitude, landing in towns and villages not just to document the river, but to ask vital questions:

“Why aren’t we the ones showing all of this to the world?”
“Why, when we search for images of the Tagus, do we mostly find photos of Lisbon or the river’s mouth? Where are the images of the interior?”

We really want to go beyond landscapes and bring new, untold stories to light — highlighting the cultural diversity, tourist potential, and economic vitality of each location touched by the river. Each stop is an opportunity to meet students, teachers, community leaders, and business owners.

The talks we offer, free of charge, in schools or public spaces, are not just tales of adventure — they are invitations for young people to explore and value their own land. Carlos Rix is going to speak about the power of a mobile phone in the hands of someone who wants to communicate. Ramiro will present the foundations of free flight and the possibilities it offers.

To make this mission possible, we need support. From donors, local councils, local presidents, local leaders, merchants, hoteliers in each region.

We chose crowdfunding for its transparency — and because we want to keep our focus where it belongs: On the Tagus. Not on branding. On its people. On the cities that embrace it. On the stories that flow with its waters. And on everything this living artery has to offer Portugal and the world. And like sowers along the path, we want to leave reflections and challenges behind — so that each young person we meet might discover the strength in telling their own story. Help us tell more stories!
